Vancouver, BC Canada
Did anyone actually watch the playoff match Canada v. USA? There was an obvious bias in the way the game was refereed. The referees wanted the home country to win. USA is by far the superior team in every way. With Finn and Ladd leading the offense and with "bad boy Mr. Defense" Thompson - the best defensive player in the league - USA should be going for the gold. Not Canada!
referees?
I didn't actually watch the game myself, but was under the impression that no games were going to have observers this year at WUGC (let alone referees - which incedentally 'freestyle' sounds like they should know that there are infact no referees in ultimate?....)?
referees?
tasha, you beat me to it.
Since when were there any referees in an Ultimate game? I suggest that freestyle isn't completely aware of how the game was played if he/she was watching a game with referees on the field. If in fact he/she is referring to the observers, I have never seen a game where the observers score the points or defend the throws. Ultimate has always been a game determined by the players. Having said that, I wasn't there and can't attest to fair calls made by the players.
would you like some cheese
would you like some cheese with your whine?
Gracious in defeat?
Freestyle, so gracious in defeat So full of the spirit?
Oh, Boo eff'n Hoo
Gotta love that good ole U-S-A spirit!
Good luck in that Bronze game eh.
bwahahaha
Did anyone actually watch the Women's playoff match Canada v. USA? There was an obvious bias in the way the game was refereed. The referees wanted the away country to win. CAN is by far the superior team in every way - CAN should be going for the gold. Not USA!

US vs CAN MIXED
I watched both mixed games, yesterday's and today's. Yesterday the US called travel calls on every huck Canada had (legit or not). Today's game only had a couple of bad calls by #9 of the US team. One example was a huck just from the US side of half to the opposite corner near the front of the Canadian end zone. The Canadian defender lost sight of the disc, and just put his arms straight up and ran toward the US player, and did not touch him. The US player lost concentration, bobbled the disc when he tried to catch it and dropped it, and called a foul.
The US was up by several points they just lost the momentum and TFP turned it up in the second half.
The only 'referees' there were was the crowd, while mostly pro Canadian was also well represented by the US.
didn't touch him?
Greg - I'm afraid I have a sequence of images from that play that disagrees with you, it looks like the Canadian player did hit his arm as he jumped up in front of him, hard to tell if it was before or after the US player made the play on the disc, but there was definite arm-arm contact.
Haven't managed to post my pictures from yesterday yet, but they should be up tonight, you can then see for yourself. I'm from ultimatephotos.org but posting my worlds photos on nzsnaps.com for this tournament (either of them will get you there).
Cheers,
Dave
