Vancouver, BC Canada
We're all excited, but we're also spending our time
training and freeing up work/family commitments
to come. Hardly anyone wants to dig out a user
name and password to flame "MY TEAM WILL WIN!"
These forums could be much more interesting if
security protocols were removed and people
were allowed to simply post without logging
in or registering.
Silly questions like, "Would the masters
champion beat the juniors champion?"
could be freely debated, and not just
by geeks like me. (I vote masters.)
How 'bout it, WFDF? There's still time to generate
some hype. Power to the people!

Let's look at the evidence...
Ulti books written by WUGC 08 Masters players: 1
Ulti books written by WUGC 08 Juniors players: 0 (that I know of...)
OK so far.
On the other hand there's this "hypothetical" situation:

Hmmmm. Well, there goes the advantage. Maybe.
Experience vs exuberance... which would prevail?
I'd say if you were to have such a showdown schedule it *before* Worlds. In a strong wind, preferably.
Would be interesting to see though...
bacon and eggs and spam
Me thinks it takes < 30 seconds to register, and you can leave yourself logged in. Doesn't sound like much of a barrier to me. An account has other benefits, too:
- you can click on usernames to get more info about other people
- you'll be able to upload photos and videos (coming soon)
Besides, I'm sure everyone would rather we spend our valuable time on other tasks, rather than monitoring and deleting the mountain of spam that would result with an open forum. :)
Craig.
p.s. Windy I'd go with Masters. Calm I'd bet on Juniors.
power to the people
Perhaps it takes <30 seconds if you know your user name
and password, but if you're like me (okay, *you* are not,
but many users out there are) you are registered for
so many different things -- blogs, newspapers, igoogle,
weather sites, ... -- that you never remember your user
name let alone your password (even if I try to stick to
just a few, they always have to be changed due to different
requirements on different sites: 8 letters or more,
alpha-numeric, not like a word, etc). So then you try
to look up on your e-mail account some info coming from
WFDF or is it WUGC, oh and does case matter in your
search? Which is it? Upper or lower? And maybe you
did this at work, but now you're at home on a different
computer. Add it all up and it's enough of a
deterrent against posting the two words "MASTERS SUCKS!"
or some such trash that makes these chats exciting.
Remove these barriers and those people (like me) will
be more likely to come out. So would the spam.
You predict mountains. I'm no expert, but I'm not
so certain. For example, could a robot read an
instruction that said "enter 'wfdf' as username and
as password"? I dunno.
I guess a serious, informed discussion has its place --
I even have tried to generate a few through blog
and book -- and I love the idea of a global disc forum,
but I think that what this tournament
(or more constructively, the next) needs is
HYPE!

Methinks if you have
Methinks if you have something you really want to contribute, you can put your login on a sticky note for the duration of the tourney.
I'd rather have a speed bump in the process and have people own their words rather than look at a bunch of BS flame-bait trolls.
Skeeter ( and you can find me at the fields under that name)
While I agree that there
While I agree that there would be a fair amount of spam to delete.
I still HATE having to register for and make accounts for every flipping site under the cables.
Only with great reluctance and disdain did I just now make an account. And that was purely to sign up for Volunteer training session.
There's my rant and I'm sticking to it! ;)
Emmanuel
p.s. Masters wouldn't want me to bet on them, I'd lose my money and they'd lose the game ;)
