French Flutter-guts team seeking opposition throughout tournament week

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls,

Two French ultimate players are looking forward to playing elite-level flutter-guts games throughout the tournament against whoever is up for the challenge!
If you are interested, please reply here, or look for JB (#22, French Masters) or Paddy (#91, French Mixed) anytime during the tournament!

See you in Vancouver!

The young and the old,

The young and the old, sounds like a western movie....

flutter-guts

You know, i think us Guts players might be pretty good at that. What are the basic rules it? Do you use a Guts disc or Ulti disc?

re: flutter-guts

Hey Ryan!

Rules vary a little from country to country, but this is how we play (basic rules are quite similar to those of guts I believe):

* In case of disputes, the Spirit of The Game should prevail.
* Field consists solely of a line separating both teams.
* You have to catch the disc with one part of the body. It has to be a clean catch, usually one-handed. Bobbling the disc with any part of the body is allowed. Disc can only be in contact of one body part at a time.
* Throw has to be at a correct speed, height and width (these depend on the players mostly), and spinless.
* You score a point if:
- The other team drops it
- The other team traps it
- The other team makes 3 bad serves in a row
- You catch it behind your back.
* You score 2 points if :
- a correct throw hits the ground untouched ('Ace')
- after the disc touches an opposing player, you catch your own serve without crossing the line.
* You lose 2 points if you attempt to catch the disc after it has crossed the line, but drop it.
* Teams are made of two players, no subs.
* Games to 21, halftime at 11
* Having a good time is compulsory, heckling is encouraged.

Be sure to ask for any clarifications if necessary, or to give us input on how other countries play!

We usually play it with ultimate discs because hardly anyone plays guts around here, but playing with guts discs might be worth a try!

Anyways, since the two sports seem so similar, we'll be expecting a lot of competition from you guts players ;-)

flutter guts

okay, we play this but we called it Kunkle (kunn-kle). WE stand about 10 feet apart. We play with a Guts Disc, and that sucker MOVES! I'll try it with a Ulti Disc at Ultimate League next week.

Any point for a clean catch, aka a bag?

I have a bet for you. If we beat you in Flutter Guts, you have to play 1 game of Actual Guts. If we lose we'll buy you beers... let me know if you're up to it or if you're scared, we'll understand if you back out... =)

Ryan

You're on Ryan!

You're on Ryan!
We don't usually award extra points for a bag.
I think I saw you on Youtube, and you know what team we play for and our numbers, so we should be able to find each other.
Looking forward to it!

Rules Question

I don't see any rules about performance inhibitors.

I imagine they're recommended? Perhaps I can recommend the Spirit Pavilion (aka Beer Garden) as a venue...

Craig

Spirit Pavilion it is

Awesome suggestion!
Am I to understand that team Canada will also be attending WCFG? (=World Championships of Flutter-Guts, of course)

So far we have:
-USA
-Great Britain
-France
And we hope to see Canada!

Italy will attend

..and try to win!

Heh... if you've seen some

Heh... if you've seen some of our throws at practices, you might actually think we're practicing for the WCFG. I suppose that means we're in?

Canada (Red) #57

We should do this Saturday

We should do this Saturday Morning/evening. After Ulti games.

Are we playing with Guts Discs or Ulti disc? If we play with Guts discs, we'll prolly beat everyone by 10 points... just a little smack talk...=P

Ryan

ps come watch Regular Guts if anyone has a chance.

Count the DR In

dominican republic will also attend WCFG!

artistic flutter guts

In socially lubricated settings, we sometimes engage in a freer form of flutter guts.

players in a circle, up to 8 max.

the only rule is to throw from the same grip you catch the disc. no shifting your grip to set and throw, just release as soon as you have caught it. Move the disc around the circle and don't repeat the same throw. backhands, thumbers, push passes, scoobers, whatever, just keep it moving.

3 strikes and you're out. Strikes for drops, uncatchable throws or repeating the same throw during a point.

WCFG

Great stuff!
We are now up to 6 teams:
-Dominican Republic (Welcome!)
-Canada
-USA
-Italy
-GB
-France

What i suggest is that we have all teams meet after the opening game to figure out how we're gonna organize the games.
So far, a round robin with a game or two a day seems reasonable to me, so that we have time for other stuff too.
If all teams could write me (ericmaniez wanadoo fr) so that i can reach everyone easily, that would be great!

See you all soon!

congrats to the french

You guys did well at the french flutter guts. It was harder with the Ulti disc. Heavy! You beat us fair and square... even if i was really drunk. =)

We won Gold in Guts, maybe the Frenchies can beat us in Regular Guts next?
