The bronze medal match between Team Australia (Barramundis) and Team USA (Shazam Returns) was sure to be another good battle. I say another because they met back on Day 1 of Worlds when they put on a great show for the crowd on the showcase field #1. Team USA won that battle, but only by a margin of 3 points. They started the game strong and rattled the Aussies with a big first half lead.
The game between Team USA (San Francisco's Fury) and Team Canada (Vancouver's Traffic) was a much anticipated match-up. Team USA had little trouble beating most of the teams they played at this year's WUGC. Their first game against Team Australia was a good battle, but after that they pretty much rolled most teams (including the serving of a bagel to Team Mexico: 17 - 0).
This isn't the first time Team USA (Sockeye) and Team Japan (Buzz Bullets) have met on the playing field. In fact, these two teams have become quite good international friends, and the competition between them is always top notch.
On Day 3, Team Australia (aka the Dingos) delivered a royal beating to Team Great Britain (aka Clapham). It looked to be a fairly even matchup, but the Aussies proved too strong for the Brits and convincingly won the match with a final score of 17 - 11.
With only two losses under their belt (one earlier that day to Team Japan), Team Australia (Barramundis) were looking to rebound back into the tournament with a win against their next opponent, Team Canada (Team Fisher-Price).
With only one loss under their belt, Team Australia (Barramundis) was looking to continue their winning record in the game against Team Japan. But, aside from Team USA, Team Japan was a much tougher opponent than the Barramundis had seen up to this point. Both teams knew it was going to be a hard faught battle, and they both came out swinging.
As the great WUGC 2008 progresses, so do the big match-ups. The early timeslot on Day 4 saw a big game when Team Canada (Furious George) was pitted against the fan popular Team Japan (Buzz Bullets).
